The National School Lunch Program hasn't been updated for years, and schools are struggling to meet the demand for fresh, local food. The Senate has introduced a bill with new funding for healthier food, stronger nutrition standards, and grants for linking schools to local farms -- but it's been stalled by Senate leadership, and may be postponed for another year or two. Instead of much-needed help, school lunch programs could end up with the same old status quo.
Please tell your Senators to make child nutrition a priority. And if you're having a hard time finding the right words, try these: "Do what's best for America's children, and sign the Lincoln/Chambliss 'Dear Colleague' letter, which asks Senate leaders to schedule time for the Child Nutrition Bill ASAP."
